Serena Williams: I am not afraid to speak my mind on a lot of things
Serena Williams feels privileged about the position she is in, having had a lot of success in tennis and having inspired many people over the world. 'I think just being involved in a sport that's traditionally white and being a black girl and coming out and doing so awesome in general is gonna open eyes of watchers that don't normally watch tennis or has never even thought to watch tennis,' Serena said in a press conference. 'So think that has a lot to do with it. I also think that ‑‑ I think I have a pretty outgoing personality. Maybe not today, but normally I'm pretty upbeat and funny. I don't know. I think I'm really an outgoing individual, and I'm not afraid to wear my emotions on my sleeve or speak my mind on a lot of different things or just be myself, yeah.'
What role does luck play in the sport? 'I don't know. I feel like luck is what you make it. I've always said for me the definition of luck is when preparation meets opportunity. I've prepared my whole life for this. I'm not very lucky, but yet I have a few slams.'
On the success of herself and sister Venus, Serena said: 'I'm glad we're both pretty good at it, because I always use her. If I'm going somewhere and they give me a nice gift I'm like, Well, my sister, she's not here, but she would love that. If she was no good then I wouldn't be able to do that. And I always keep it. She doesn't even know about it half the time. I guess maybe she'll know about it now.'
