Vasek Pospisil: I was relaxed and confident against Daniil Medvedev

World No. 104 Vasek Pospisil entered his Rotterdam clash against Daniil Medvedev with nothing to lose but believed the whole time that he could pull off an upset against the world No. 5.

Pospisil, who ended runner-up in Montpellier last week, started his Rotterdam campaign in style as he saw off to -seeded Medvedev 6-4 6-3 to set up a round-of-16 meeting against Filip Krajinovic.

"It doesn’t happen every day that you can beat a player of Daniil’s calibre,” Pospisil said, per the ATP Tour. “You always believe in yourself and you know you can do it, especially if you have done it in the past, which I have.

“I came in with a pretty precise game plan. I knew exactly what I wanted to do, but execution is another thing. I was also the big underdog, so I was a bit relaxed and confident which is a good combo to have when you are going into a match."

Medvedev got off to a fast start but his lead didn't last long as Pospisil claimed two breaks to recover from an early 2-0 deficit and steal the first set.

The Canadian then earned the lone break of the second set in the fourth game and then served his way into the round-of-16.
