2015 Wimbledon Girls Junior Champion Sofya Zhuk To Take a Break from Tennis

Sofya Zhuk, the 2015 Wimbledon girls singles champion, has said that she is taking a break from tennis for now due to injuries and will be focusing on a career in modeling and other things outside fashion for now..

According to the Luxgallery website, Zhuk says, “I have had serious injuries in the past few years, non-stop, and I have decided to give my body a couple of years of break and see how it goes. Maybe I'll be back in a couple of years."

Zhuk, a Maria Sharapova fan, is 20 years old and won the Wimbledon junior title when she was 15. She had trained at the Justine Henin Academy earlier on. When she won her first tournament at Shymkent, she became only the 17th 14 year old in ITF history to win an open tournament at that age, joining a group which includes former world number ones Justine Henin and Dinara Safina.

In 2015, Zhuk competed as an unseeded 15-year-old at Wimbledon, where she won the junior girls' title against fellow Russian and No. 12 ranked junior Anna Blinkova in straight sets, 7–5, 6–4.

Between 2014 and 2017, she won 6 titles on the ITF circuit and her best ranking was No. 116. Her last match on the tour was a loss in the first round of qualifying at Wimbledon in 2019 and is currently ranked no. 432 in the world.

She adds, "Right now I'm working as a model, but I'm also trying to do things other than fashion."
