Belgium's Steve Darcis Working on Developing Young Professional Belgian Players
After retiring from the sport in January, Belgium's Steve Darcis is now working with the Association Francophone de Tennis (AFT) and will be more focused on Team Pro, for the development of young professional Belgian players.
Speaking to RTBF, Darcis says, "For the results, we will see. We will try to make a good competition program. The future will tell us what will happen. We have not discussed what the management expected of me, but I think that coaches with experience, there are not many in Belgium. They surely want me to bring all this to make the young people grow in there. "
Darcis' role is to improve the training of young people who wish to enter the professional circuit after completing 18 years of age.
André Stein , President of the Royal Belgian Tennis Federation, asked for patience despite the concern around the next generation. "Goffin, of course we are not going to get out of it right away! If in three years we have players who register for the Grand Slam qualifying, it will already be a victory for us. For now, our goal is to straighten the bar and put everything back in place. We will have to be really patient, but I think there are players. There is potential, there is. But there is not fully exploited. "
Speaking about Belgium's upcoming Davis Cup tie against Hungary where the Belgians will be without their top player, Darcis says, "It is a little sad for the Belgian team. But David aims to enter the top 10 by the end of the year. Indian Wells and Miami are important tournaments for him. Can't blame him for putting the odds on his side and going to train there. We can't blame him for putting his career forward."
