Casper Ruud speaks highly of Thiago Seyboth Wild after Santiago final

No. 2 seed Casper Ruud wasn't too hard on himself after failing to win the inaugural ATP Santiago despite being a favorite in the final.

Ruud, who recently won the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires, was upset in the Santiago final by Brazilian wildcard Thiago Seyboth Wild.

Seyboth Wild, who was ranked at No. 182 in the world last week, claimed a 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Ruud in the Santiago final to earn his maiden ATP title.

En route to winning Santiago, the 19-year-old Brazilian also beat Facundo Bagnis, Juan Ignacio Londero and Renzo Olivo while Cristian Garin retired mid-match during their quarterfinal clash.

"He played amazing tennis all week. I can't be too upset about my loss," Ruud said of Seyboth Wild, via the ATP Tour. "He proved that he deserved his wildcard and took very good care of his opportunity. Even though I'm not that experienced myself, I can see that he'll be around for many more years. Hopefully we can play many more finals together in the future."
