Ferrero: "Zverev is totally capable of beating Roger Federer, Nadal and Djokovic"

Juan Carlos Ferrero and Alexander Zverev collaborated for a few months before separating, despite the young German having achieved good results by winning the Masters 1000 of Montreal in 2017.

The former World number 1 has had his say on his split with Sascha, claiming the German lacked discipline and did not follow his guidelines. The collaboration between Zverev and Ivan Lendl also ended early. Zverev began his 2020 season at the inaugural ATP Cup, playing singles matches against Alex De Minaur, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Denis Shapovalov; losing all three. At the Australian Open, he reached his first Slam semifinal by losing to Dominic Thiem.

In a recent interview with Tennishead, his former coach Ferrero spoke about Zverev's chances of winning a Slam: "Winning a Grand Slam is pretty hard and he needs to keep working and improving. I think he will reach it sometime. He´s still young and totally capable of beating the best."

Ferrero also discussed the Spanish promise Carlos Alcaraz: "Our main goals at our Academy are to keep growing and improving the player. He´s too young to focus on specific ranking goals, although they´re important of course. We hope he’ll be close to ATP top 100 by the end of the 2020 season. If he keeps working as he is, he will reach it."

On his tennis academy, JCF added: "Some we invite them to come and visit us. Others ask us directly. We have great experience with professional players through myself and  Pablo (Carreño-Busta, who also practice in Ferrero´s Academy) so we arrange to meet and practice with them. Others meet us when they come to play some of our tournaments and after they come back to the Academy."
