Julia Görges Confirms She Will Play in the Bad Homburg Open This Year

Germany's Julia Görges has confirmed that she will take part in the Bad Homburg Open this summer, as per the organizers of the new WTA tournament. The tournament will take place from June 21st to 27th in the Bad Homburg Kurpark. Görges' is the second German tennis player to confirm for the event after three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber.

Speaking about her participation, Görges said, "I'm really looking forward to competing on home soil in June. Germany has received two new grass field events this year. And there is no better place to prepare for the grass season than where you feel at home."

The tournament serves as a key warm-up for the Wimbledon Championships and the grass surface used In Bad Homburg is identical to that at Wimbledon.

31 year old Görges has won 7 WTA singles titles and 5 WTA doubles titles in her career. She also reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 2018. She is a former Top 10 player and is currently ranked No. 38 in the world rankings.

The tournament takes place in a historic location, the first tennis court on the European continent was built in Bad Homburg in 1874. The tickets for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals have already been sold out and organizers are looking to create additional seats.

The German reached the third round of the most recent Grand Slam - the Australian Open in Melbourne in January.
