Mardy Fish: Maybe hiatus through the clay season
Former Top 10 player Mardy Fish suggests that the tennis tour should shut down for the entire clay court season, in a tweet he posted on his Twitter account.
The ATP Tour has already suspended tournaments for the next 6 weeks and a review of further tournaments will be based on how the situation unfolds in the coming weeks. The WTA Tour has also no tournament scheduled for the next few weeks until the Stuttgart event in late April.
However, Fish posted an update on Twitter saying he found it unlikely that the tour would regroup in time for the clay court season. The American posted, "ATP Tour suspending season for 6 weeks. Can’t think they will start back up in Madrid and Rome and then into Paris...??? Maybe hiatus through the clay season? Unprecedented times"
It remains to be seen how the tennis tour reacts to the COVID-19 outbreak in the coming weeks.

Fish won 6 titles on the ATP Tour and reached the final of four Masters Series events: Cincinnati in 2003 and 2010, Indian Wells in 2008, and Montreal in 2011. His best results at Grand Slam tournaments are reaching the quarterfinals of the 2007 Australian Open, the 2008 US Open, and the 2011 Wimbledon Championships. At the 2004 Summer Olympic Games, Fish reached the final in the men's singles, losing to Nicolás Massú. After retiring at the 2015 US Open, Fish became the captain of Davis Cup team, replacing Jim Courier in 2019.
