Sam Groth: Thanasi Kokkinakis had glandular fever in my understanding

Former Australian world No. 53 Sam Groth hopes fellow compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis has fully recovered from glandular fever and that he will soon be back in action. 

Kokkinakis, 23, has yet to kick off his 2020 campaign as he hasn't played since ending runner-up at the Tiburon Challenger in September 2019. 

The Australian achieved a career-high ranking of No. 69 in the world in 2015 but unfortunately his further progress was hampered by major health issues and multiple surgeries. 

"He (Kokkinakis) had glandular fever is my understanding. I haven’t spoken to him or heard anything from him though. We’d all just love to see him out on the court," Groth said on The First Serve. 

Kokkinakis also spent the majority of the 2019 season on the sidelines as he played only three tournaments in the first six months of the season. 

After returning to action in July 2019, the Australian played six tournaments over the course of the next three months. 

The 23-year-old collected a couple of notable results on the Challenger Tour in the second half of the 2019 season before he suffered another setback.
