Munich Open organizers release a statement about the 2020 edition

The International Tennis Championships of Bavaria had started way back in 1900 in Munich, with the Bavarian capital staying on the tennis map ever since, moving the event to the Iphitos Tennis Club in 1974 and becoming a regular stop in the ATP calendar. Guillermo Vilas, Manuel Orantes, Ivan Lendl, Michael Stich, Roger Federer, Nikolay Davydenko, Tommy Haas and Andy Murray are all on the list of champions, with Alexander Zverev stealing the honor in 2017 and 2018 as the first back-to-back champion in almost 20 years. Cristian Garin went all the way last spring and he may stay as the defending champion until 2021 as well, with a coronavirus generating the lockdown of the tennis season at least until the second part of July but probably for much longer. Munich should have taken place at the end of April and the beginning of May and the organizers had to cancel it, still hoping to get some spot in the calendar if the season continues and preparing everything for 2021 if that's the only option. 

"Dear friends of the BMW Open by FWU! We would like to inform you about the current status of the 2020 edition of our tournament. With the recent decision by the federal government and states to cancel major events by August 31, 2020, we will once again intensify the previous exchange with the ATP and the licensing authorities, with the aim of getting clarity as soon as possible about the extent to which - above all from the point of view of health for you as the audience, the players and the entire organization - it is possible, sensible and correct to carry out the BMW Open by FWU this year, or not. Should we receive an appointment for 2020 and consider it to be correct in all respects, we will communicate this immediately and the tickets you have already purchased will remain valid for the day of the round in question. In this case, you can also decide whether you want to redeem your ticket at the new date or whether your ticket should be rebooked for the tournament in the coming year.

If we can no longer host the BMW Open by FWU this season, we will rebook your already purchased ticket for this tournament and you will keep your seat for the same round next year. The following applies to both variants: If you cannot or do not want to come to the new date 2020 or next year, we will take back tickets you have already purchased. Please understand that this can only take place if we are clear about whether and when the 2020 tournament will take place or not. The reverse processing described is only technically possible afterward. Until then, all tickets remain valid. We wish you a good time and stay healthy!"
