Richard Gasquet: The great unity of the tennis world makes me laugh a little

French tennis player Richard Gasquet says that the supposed united front in the tennis world makes him laugh.

The French player was talking about to the French daily L'Equipe about the current situation in the tennis world. With the current crisis, there has been talk of more unity between the tennis bodies such as the ITF, ATP & WTA Tours.

When the French Tennis Federation moved their tournament to September, there was a huge outcry as they had not consulted the other tennis bodies.

Gasquet says, “There are so many conflicts of interest on all sides that it doesn't shock me more than that (on the choice of the date of Roland-Garros). It is understandable to try to save Roland Garros. After the incident happens, there is always fault. I'm not saying it's good to do it like that without telling anyone. But honestly, if it hadn't been this tournament, it would have been another another ... It's easy to criticize Roland but everyone would have done the same. The great unity of world tennis makes me laugh a little. It never existed. There are only beautiful speakers to believe it. We the players, the grand slams, the tournament directors, the agents ... If we have to find a similar crisis to find a solution .."

The 33 year old Gasquet, a former Top 10 player, has won a total of 15 singles titles on the ATP Tour. His best performance in Grand Slams included reaching the semifinals of the 2007 and 2015 Wimbledon Championships and the semifinals of the 2013 US Open. He won the mixed doubles Grand Slam title at the 2004 French Open, with French compatriot Tatiana Golovin and also the men's doubles Olympic bronze medal in 2012 with Julien Benneteau. He is currently ranked No. 50 in the world.
