Tara Moore: Lower-ranked players are essential part of tennis
Great Britain's Tara Moore claims tennis needs lower-ranked players, otherwise the sport dies.
Earlier this week, world No. 441 Moore urged the governing bodies to start giving bigger attention to lower-ranked players.
A fan on Twitter wasn't supportive of Moore as he claimed lower-ranked players simply aren't good enough.
The comment didn't sit well with former world No. 145 Moore.
"We don't seem to exist, we just play tennis." Britain's Tara Moore and Georgia's Sofia Shapatava have spoken up for tennis' lower-ranked players, asking the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to hear their voice. 📱💻🎾✍️👇https://t.co/JVNGFsYiIY

Or maybe , with their rankings, these players are fantasist who will never be good enough to make an independent living out of competitive tennis. Let's start the rankings at 200 . At 300-1000 you're just a trainee accountant in waiting who happens to be above average at tennis

Just a question, maybe don’t take it personally, but are you top 500 in your job? Think about that? Out of billions of people someone 500 in the world is unable to even break even. If everyone outside 100 quit there would be no tennis (no competition, no variety)

Ok if the big 3 just play themselves wouldn’t everyone be bored after 100 matches of Rafa Djokovic? What happens when they retire? Who takes their places? And that’s what I mean in your world without lower ranked players, tennis dies. That’s EXACTLY WHY the big 3 don’t do this

The point is, right now, being 500 is not financially viable, but it should be, that’s why I’m trying to speak out & change the sport so people like you, don’t put talented people down, & the sport can grow. You’re right tennis isn’t essential, but people sure do love watching 🤷🏽♀️

Actually when we play in a tournament where the club is very into tennis we play to big crowds. Again you wouldn’t know, and if you ran tennis (thank god you don’t) there wouldn’t even be a “big 3”
