Venus Williams: 'I have always felt the need to take care of Serena'

In more than twenty years of career, Serena and Venus Williams have won 121 singles tournaments, 4 mixed doubles tournaments and have been at number one in singles for more than 300 weeks and in the doubles ranking for eight weeks. After the French Open in 2002, Venus and Serena were respectively number one and two in the singles ranking. Both are part of the small group of tennis players who have won more than 50 titles.

Both sisters have been ranked by the Women's Tennis Association at the world No. 1 position in both singles and doubles. In 2002, after the French Open, Venus Williams and Serena Williams were ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, marking the first time in history that sisters occupied the top 2 singles spots in the world rankings.

During the 2010 French Open, they became the co-world No. 1 players in women's doubles. On 21st June 2010, Serena and Venus again held the No. 1 and No. 2 rankings spots in singles, respectively, some eight years after first accomplishing this feat. At the time, Serena was three months shy of her 29th birthday and Venus had just celebrated her 30th birthday.

The recent Q&A session on YouTube started with Serena asking her sister whether she loves her. “Serena and I have always had a special relationship. So, there are 5 of us and I am the fourth, and Serena is the fifth. She is the only sister I am older to so I have always felt the need to take care of her and inversely she feels like she has to take care of me" - Venus said.
