Venus Williams: When the season starts, I will be ready
Tennis - Former World No. 1 Venus Williams says she will be ready when the season resumes, in a message she posted on her Twitter account.
The 39 year old seven-time Grand Slam champion tweeted, "Sunday by the pool, but back on the court tomorrow. When the season starts, I will be ready 💪💪. Can wait. Can you?" while posing next to the pool.
The tennis season has been suspended till June 7th at least with many suggesting that the grass courts season will also be canceled.
Williams also posted a message on the delay of the Olympic Games - saying, "The Olympics may have been postponed, but the Olympic spirit is always within"
Many had been speculating that Williams may retire after the Olympics but with her current comments, it seems like she certainly has no plans to quit just yet. Williams has won four Olympic gold medals, one in singles and three in women's doubles, along with a silver medal in mixed doubles - making her even with Kathleen McKane Godfree for the most Olympic medals won by a male or female tennis player. She is the only tennis player to have won a medal at four Olympic Games. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Williams became only the second player to win Olympic gold medals in both singles and doubles at one Olympic Games, after Helen Wills Moody at the 1924 Summer Olympics.
