Andrew Harris not happy with Roger Federer's comments about playing in empty stadiums

Australian tennis player Andrew Harris says that the global tennis circuit should resume when it is safe enough to do so, in a response on social media to Roger Federer's comments that he would find it very hard to play without fans in an empty stadium.

During a recent video chat with former World No. 1 Gustavo Kuerten, Federer had said, “I can’t imagine competing in an empty stadium, I hope it never happens.

“As much as when we train there are no people, competing is very different. It is clear that the possibility is feasible. But I think we could wait for the appropriate moment to return in the best conditions, with at least a third of the stadium full or half in.

“It would be very difficult for me to play major tournaments behind closed doors.”

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, of the Czech Republic, also made similar comments saying that she would prefer canceling the Grand Slams rather than playing in empty stadiums.

Harris posted a tweet saying that the tour should resume whenever it is safe to do so and that it was selfish of Federer to comment on those lines, then deleted the same and made similar comments in a response to a query from another Twitter user. 

Ranked no. 204 in the world, Harris said, “How about the Tour returns when its appropriately safe to do so and those players struggling can earn some income. Standard selfishness from Roger Federer.”

After deleting that tweet, he made similar comments in response to a fan. “The tour should resume as soon as it is appropriately safe to do so - as I mentioned in my original tweet,. If that means resuming without fans in the meantime, then that is what should happen. Not because Roger doesn’t want to play in front of no fans.

Roger Federer is a 20-time Grand Slam champion. He is considered to be among the greatest players of all time. Federer recently underwent knee surgery in February and has said that he plans to play next year as well.
