Former Austrian Pro on How Dominic Thiem Has Been Supporting Austrian Junior Andrejic

World No. 3 Dominic Thiem has received a lot of criticism after he stated that he is not in favour of the top ranked players contributing to the Player Relief programme  as he would like to choose which players and causes his money should go to.

In his comments, Thiem said that some of the lower ranked players do not work hard enough and he would like his money to go to players who really deserve it.

Now, former Austrian tennis pro Alexander Antonitsch has come to the defense of Thiem saying that the World No. 3 has been supporting one of the best young talents in Austria even prior to the tennis shutdown but did not publicize the same.

Speaking to Der Standard, Thiem, Antonitsch says, "Everyone can freely dispose of their money. Dominic does a lot. Even before Corona,  he promoted one of the best young players in Austria, very few people know that nobody talks about it."

The young junior being mentioned is 17 year old Marko Andrejic, who is ranked No. 144 in the ITF junior world rankings. The teenager is financially supported by Thiem and trained by his father Wolfgang.

Andrejic also has the chance to compete with the best in the country at the Generali Austrian Pro Series, which is coming up later this month.

The tournament will feature 16 men and 8 women and besides Thiem, others expected to compete are World No. 85 Dennis Novak, Sebastian Ofner, Jurij Rodionov and former Top 10 player Jürgen Melzer. Andrejic will compete besides another 17 year old Lukas Neumayer. Among the women, Barbara Haas,  Tamira Paszek and Mira Antonitsch, are expected to play the tournament.
