Furlan: Novak Djokovic wants to make the best use of his ability to make a change
Former tennis player Renzo Furlan, who is now the head of the Serbian Tennis Federation, spoke about World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in a recent interview published by the Ubitennis site.
Renzo Furlan says Novak Djokovic has a desire to give back to the sportIn his interview, Furlan says about the 19-time Grand Slam champion, "I know his great work ethic. Novak is very interested in the future of the planet, in recyclable energies, is very strict about nutrition. And I don't think he would wear the shirt of a sponsor whose principles he doesn't share.
Speaking about his own role at the Serbian federation, Furlan says, "Since July 2016 we have focused on the 12-20 age group, and starting to work on the six courts that Djokovic makes available to the federation within his Novak Tennis Center in Belgrade. His desire to return part of what he received from tennis is evident. He knows he has the power to change things, and he wants to make the best use of it. He is very concerned, for example, that potential talent will be lost on the street. Same goes for Janko Tipsarevic, who has another beautiful academy and is also doing well as a promoter. Unfortunately, there are not many funds from the state to sport, tennis in this is in the same conditions as football, volleyball which achieves excellent results, or basketball."
Novak Djokovic is currently ranked world No. 1 in men's singles and has won 17 Grand Slam singles titles, the third-most in history for a male player. Besides that, he has also won five ATP Finals titles, 34 ATP Tour Masters 1000 titles and 14 ATP Tour 500 titles. The Serbian player is three Grand Slam titles behind Roger Federer in the race for most Grand Slam singles titles in history.
