Nikoloz Basilashvili: I will prove truth in court with help of my lawyers

World No. 27 Nikoloz Basilashvili has suggested that he would never do anything harmful in front of his son following the domestic violence charges his ex-wife made against him.

Basilashvili, a three-time ATP champion, was charged with violence against a family member committed in the presence of a minor" in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi on Sunday.

Basilashvili was arrested on Friday after Neka Dorokashvili reported being “physically assaulted” by her ex-husband but the top-ranked Georgian tennis player was was released after posting bail of around $31,000.

Reportedly, Basilashvili's five-year-old witnessed the alleged incident and the Georgian faces up to three years in prison if found guilty. 

"Special bond with my son obligates me to not respond to unsubstantiated allegations, but I believe that I'll prove the truth in court with the help of my lawyers," Basilashvili said in a statement released.

The Basilashvili family strogly denies the allegations made against him.

"We declare with full responsibility that the information about the violence is untrue, and there is no evidence proving this. This is not the first time that the former wife of Nikoloz Nelly Dorokashvili is trying to inflict moral, financial and reputation damage on Nikoloz and his family," it was said in a statement released, per TASS Russian News Agency. 

A preliminary court hearing in the Basilashvili case is scheduled for July 16.
