Noah Rubin on Novak Djokovic's anti-vaccine stance: Put your beliefs aside
American tennis player Noah Rubin has suggested that Novak Djokovic should put his personal beliefs aside and get a coronavirus vaccine if it becomes compulsory once tennis returns.
In April, 17-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic publicly revealed he was opposed to coronavirus vaccination as he said back then: "Personally I am opposed to vaccination and I wouldn’t want to be forced by someone to take a vaccine in order to be able to travel.
“But if it becomes compulsory, what will happen? I will have to make a decision. I have my own thoughts about the matter and whether those thoughts will change at some point, I don’t know. “Hypothetically, if the season was to resume in July, August or September, though unlikely, I understand that a vaccine will become a requirement straight after we are out of strict quarantine and there is no vaccine yet."
Speaking of Djokovic's anti-vaccine stance on the Match Points, Rubin said, as revealed on Tennis Majors: "You can call it a personal belief all you want but it’s not personal when it affects other people. This is typical workplace etiquette, if I'm trying to be in the same locker room, touching the same towel, whatever the case may be - I don't want to be anywhere near that."
Noah Rubin says no more tennis in 2020The tennis season has been suspended since mid-March due to the coronavirus outbreak and in the best case scenario the season will resume in early-August.
Wimbledon got cancelled but the hope remains that the US Open and French Open could still take place at a later date this year.
"Scrap it. I think we’re wasting time. If you look at any medical evidence, we are going to have a second round of this, especially with things opening up too quickly, so why are we not using this time to try to evolve tennis," Rubin said.
Noah Rubin, the 2014 Wimbledon' boys singles champion, has been vocal over the last year about tennis needing to make some changes.
