Novak Djokovic's mother: 'I’m sorry for the other sons'
Novak Djokovic occupied the first position of the ATP ranking for a total of 282 weeks, third behind Roger Federer (310) and Pete Sampras (286), of which 122 in a row. From Wimbledon 2015 to Roland Garros 2016 he won consecutively, even if not in the same year, the four Grand Slam tournaments, performing the so-called "virtual Grand Slam" or "Nole Slam", a feat that, in men's tennis, has not been successful since the times by Rod Laver (winner of the Grand Slam in 1962 and, unique in the Open Era, in 1969).
He is the only tennis player in history to have won the nine Masters 1000 tournaments at least once in his career, a result that, starting from 2009, the ATP calls Career Golden Masters. His mother Dijana Djokovic was in conversation with Blick. She stated, the entire family was busy in fulfilling Novak’s dreams, and in the process of doing it, the family couldn’t spare enough time for Marko and Djordje Djokovic.
“Everything was just about Novak. We neglected his two younger brothers because we often spontaneously directed our plans towards Novak. Once Marko and Djordje should go to a camp in Barcelona. But we canceled it because the whole family flew to Miami the next morning to be with Nole,” Dijana said.
“He needed us and we wanted to make him feel like we were behind him. Then he reached the final – it was a key experience. From then on we gave everything to him. I’m sorry for the other sons, they were talented too. But we couldn’t support them too. My husband ran out of reserves. We had no strength to do it again like with Novak,” she added.
