Rafael Nadal Says No for Insta Live with Nick Kyrgios

World No. 2 Rafael Nadal has declined the invitation of Nick Kyrgios to go on an Instagram live session saying that the Aussie tennis star might have more fun with someone closer to his age and style.

The idea of a Kyrgios and Nadal Instagram live session came up after BBC Sport asked fans which pair of athletes they would like to see go online together. Kyrgios and Nadal, who have had a bitter rivalry on and off the court in recent times, were among those mentioned in the poll.

After the BBC tweet online, Kyrgios publicly invited Nadal saying - 'Rafa lets do Instagram live together. I am down with it. Let’s do it.'

During an interview to La Voz de Galicia, Nadal commented, “I don’t mind doing a live with Nick but there’s a generational gap and he might have more fun with someone closer to his age and style."

Kyrgios and Nadal have met 8 times on the ATP Tour with Nadal leading their head to head 5-3.

While Nadal has often said that Kyrgios is one of the most talented players and great fun to watch when his game is on, he said Kyrgios “lacked respect” for the fans and his opponents after losing to the Australian at the Mexican Open last year.

Kyrgios responded by calling Rafa a “super-salty” loser.

A few months later when the two met at the 2019 Wimbledon Championships, when Nadal defeated the Australian, Kyrgios aimed one of his passing shots directly at Nadal, who was at the net for a volley which did not go down well with the Spaniard.

Nadal's uncle and former coach Toni Nadal has also criticized Kyrgios for his attitude on the court in the media.
