Roger Federer: Not training now since resumption of the circuit is a long way off

Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer says he is not training at the moment during the lockdown and will return to training when it becomes clearer as to when the tour will resume.

In an interview published by the Globoesporte website, where the 20 time Grand Slam champion Federer was speaking with Brazil's Gustavo Kuerten as part of his efforts in the Winning Together initiative, the 20 time Grand Slam champion says he has been spending time with his family currently and is happy with the way his body has recovered after undergoing knee surgery in February.

"We have never stayed at home more than five weeks since my last surgery in 2016. This is a great time for us, as a family, of course we sometimes drive each other crazy, like any family (laughs).

"But honestly, we are healthy, our friends and family did not have the virus, which is important for us. And we're doing well despite the circumstances (...)

"I'm not training at the moment because I don't see a reason for that to be honest. I am happy with my body now and I still believe that the resumption of the circuit is a long way off.

"And I think it's important for my mind at this point to enjoy this break after playing so much tennis. I don't miss it so much. I will feel, eventually, when I am close to returning and have a goal to train for. I'm going to be super motivated.

Federer's last appearance on the tour was in January during the Australian Open when he reached the semi-finals, losing to Novak Djokovic.
