WTA considering limiting entourage of players when tour resumes
Torben Beltz, the current coach of WTA player Donna Vekic and former coach of Germany's Angelique Kerber, has shared some interesting details of a communication from the WTA Tour regarding possible changes when the tour resumes during an episode of the German podcast "Advantage".
Vekic is currently ranked No. 24 in the world.
While there is no certainty about whether these would be final guidelines or when the tour would resume as of now, it does give an insight into the way the WTA Tour is considering making changes when the tour does eventually resume in the future.
As of now, all professional tournaments till 31st July have been suspended and the earliest possible restart for the tour could be in the first week of August..
Among the changes being considered are room for only one team member who can travel with the player on the site, as compared to the current scenario of players having 3 to 4 members accompanying a player on the tournament site. Currently, many players travel with a separate coach, a separate physiotherapist and perhaps a family member as well.
Another possibility that only limited number of people would be permitted to the tournament site.
The WTA would also advise players on how to change sides after every two games.
. @Advantage_Pod #Vekic coach Beltz said, that players got a handsheet from WTA with rules how pro tennis could be handled ☝️ only 1 teammember allowed to travel with a player ☝️ only a few 100 people allowed at tournament ☝️concret advice when and where to change sides etc.
