Bouchard, Stephens, Sands party in the “Purple Rain” at Charleston exhibition

Eugenie Bouchard, Sloane Stephens, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, and a few other players participating in the Credit One Bank invitational tournament organized in Charleston threw a little party in the stands of the Volvo Car Open’s stadium since a heavy rain stopped them from playing the scheduled matches. 

The atmosphere transformed once the spotlights turned purple, refracting through the drops of water, while the famous hit “Purple Rain” started rolling in the background. Mattek-Sands, Stephens, and Bouchard started singing, dancing, and posting videos on social media, just like they would do at any big concert.

And if Bouchard captured an overview scene on social media, Mattek-Sands filmed herself singing the chorus of “Purple Rain”.

The party in Charleston, another source of COVID-19 infection?

The little party thrown off by the players taking part in the invitational tournament was far from the shirtless disco night held in Belgrade, where Grigor Dimitrov, Alexander Zverev, and other Adria Tour participants joined Novak Djokovic on the dance floor.

As you can see, the Charleston party is far from what happened in Serbia – no crowd, no shirts flying around, and just a few people attending. Regarding Nole’s decision of organizing the party, even his staff didn’t agree with it. Here is what his coach, Goran Ivanisevic, had to say: 

"It's easy to be a general after the battle and many people couldn't wait for Novak Djokovic's mistake. He started to create something big after we all had been locked for three months. I can accept that the players probably shouldn't have gone to the Belgrade's nightclub, but no one was forcing them to dance close to each other or take the shirt off,” said Ivanisevic.

“Still, no one can claim that the pandemic started there. Marco Panichi wasn't at the party; I had spent almost two weeks with him, and his test was positive while mine was negative. That's not easy to explain. Djokovic's physio Miljan Amanovic had worked on Dimitrov's elbow in Zadar, and he is negative as well.

I don't even want to comment Zadar; the city has fewer cases than many others in Croatia. In my opinion, I would love to see Novak Djokovic stepping down from the ATP Player Council presidency. Since he got there, everything he does is wrong.

The attacks come from all over the world and that takes a lot of energy out of him, trying to make the right moves for our sport."
