Goran Ivanisevic explains why Novak Djokovic wasn't tested in Zadar
Coach Goran Ivanisevic says he has talked with Novak Djokovic and though it's not an easy situation for the world No. 1, he is sure the Serb will overcome it.
Four players who participated at the Adria Tour have tested positive for the coronavirus, including 17-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic.
Grigor Dimitrov, ranked at No. 19 in the world, announced on Sunday evening that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.
Djokovic, Borna Coric and Viktor Troicki followed as their tests also came back as positive.
"We talked and it's not easy for him. He is doing well, if we look at the circumstances. He will endure everything, he is strong, but it is not easy for him," Ivanisevic told RTL, as revealed on Sport Klub.
All the players who participated at the Adria Tour event in Zadar were tested on Sunday night -- all but Djokovic, who decided to travel back to Belgrade.
Ivanisevic says it was up to players to decide where will they be tested.
"Because on the day it happened, on the recommendation of the authorities, we were told that every player could be tested in his home country. So he also decided to go to Belgrade. The players went on their own to be tested. Why the players weren't before coming to Zadar? Because there was no need. That is what Minister Beros said. No one had symptoms," Ivanisevic said.
Goran Ivanisevic sorry for the way Adria Tour endedFormer world No. 2 Ivanisevic suggests some were waiting for something like this to happen so they can use it against Djokovic.
"We feel responsible, this was one big great thing. I feel sorry for all those infected, but some things cannot be influenced, like this one. The only thing that bothers me is that we are the main culprits and people are collecting political points on us, and Zadar has the lowest number of infected people," Ivanisevic added.
Ivanisevic has already twice tested negative and he hopes the same will happen when he tests this Saturday.
"I was tested last Wednesday and on Monday. Both tests were negative, I hope the third will also be this Saturday," Ivanisevic revealed.
Goran Ivanisevic, the tournament director for the Adria Tour event in Zadar, was excited about hosting some of the biggest names in Croatia.
