Nemanja Matic: Novak Djokovic, I only blame you for apologizing to mice

Serbian football star Nemanja Matic isn't a fan of hearing the criticism Novak Djokovic is receiving and he has come to the defense of his fellow compatriot.

Djokovic, the founder of the Adria Tour, has received lots of criticism over the last several days after a total of four players who participated at his event tested positive for the coronavirus.

On Sunday, former world No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov announced he was positive for the coronavirus after playing at the Adria Tour event in Zadar a day earlier.

On Monday, it was confirmed that the tests of Borna Coric and Viktor Troicki also came back as positive.

On Tuesday, 17-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic announced he and his wife tested positive for the coronavirus.

"Respected,

"I see that in the last few days, there has been a campaign against Novak Djokovic for organizing a tournament in Belgrade, although according to the laws of the state of Serbia, everything was in order and it was organized at a high level," Matic said in an open letter to the public, as revealed on Telegraf.

"Despite that, the mice have come out of their holes giving themselves the right to criticize the world number one, both in terms of tennis, but also in his attitude toward all the people in the world.

"However, I'm not worried. Very soon the cat (read, Nole) will be on the court, and the mice back in the hole.

"The tournament was great and I hope it will become traditional, because our tennis deserves it.

"The only thing I hold against Novak that he apologized to the mice who criticize him for no reason.

"No, Nole. They will be apologizing to you - soon.

"Greetings to all the people of this world, from Manchester."

Novak Djokovic admitted mistakes were made and apologized

"I'm so deeply sorry our tournament has caused harm. Everything the organizers and I did the past month, we did with a pure heart and sincere intentions. We believed the tournament met all health protocols and the health of our region seemed in good condition to finally unite for philanthropic reasons," Djokovic said in a note posted on his social media.

"We were wrong and it was too soon. I can't express how sorry I'm for this and every case of infection."

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic and his wife Jelena are feeling well after testing positive for the coronavirus.
