Sebastien Grosjean recalls big French Open win over Andre Agassi

Former French tennis player Sebastien Grosjean admits beating former world No. 1 Andre Agassi in front of his home fans at Roland Garros was a great satisfaction. 

In 2001, home favorite Grosjean clashed against Agassi in the quarterfinal at the French Open and defeated the American after recovering from a set down to win 1-6 6-1 6-1 6-3. 

At the time of the match, Agassi was already a seven-time Grand Slam champion and he captured at least one title at each of the four Grand Slams. 

Earlier that season, Agassi made it all the way at Melbourne Park to capture his third Australian Open title. 

The American was bidding to start the season with back-to-back Grand Slam titles but Grosjean came out ready to play and showed no fear. 

"Dominating Andre Agassi who had already won the Davis Cup, and the four Grand Slam tournaments, it was really a great satisfaction. Before Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic achieved this type of success, Andre Agassi was the only one who managed to achieve such success. I remember the match in which I was very tense at first. Agassi put a lot of pressure, he played fast between the points and a few years ago it had been complicated for me at the US Open. After the lost first set, I relaxed and I really played high quality tennis," Grosjean told FFT, as revealed on We Love Tennis France.

Unfortunately, Sebastien Grosjean failed to win it all 

After a big win over Agassi, the French public hoped Grosjean could put up two more bit performances and lift the title at the French Open. 

But Grosjean couldn't pick up another huge win as his Roland Garros campaign ended in the semifinal following a straight-set loss suffered to Alex Corretja.

The 2001 campaign turned out to be Grosjean's best-ever shot at winning a French Open title as he never again made the semifinal at Roland Garros. 

Over the course of his career, the Frenchman never made a Grand Slam final but he also managed to make two semifinals at Wimbledon and one semifinal at the Australian Open.

But Sebastien Grosjean still achieved some solid success in tennis as he became a four-time ATP champion and he was also a part of the French team that won the Davis Cup title in 2001.
