Kyle Edmund on playing the US Open

Speaking to Sky Sports, the British tennis player says he plans to play the Washington event, followed by the Cincinnati Masters, which has been moved to New York and the US Open as of now but will do so only if it's safe. "There are eight tournaments in that seven-week spread, so it's pretty packed. I would only say if it's safe to go I'm planning on going so that's where we're at. The tournaments want to play the events but there are a few moving parts in my opinion."

Edmund adds that a change in the situation in the United States as well as any travel restrictions could make a change in his plans. "Just looking at the States the last few days... I know that every different state has its own rules and is in a different situation but I think as a country, it's still going through quite a lot. That's something to look out for and of course when we come back to Europe, there could be travel restrictions and so on but that's the dilemma we have with an international sport, in that we play in different countries compared to maybe football. I want to play the US Open and I'm planning to play it. I've spoken to both my coaches and we're aiming for that. We will see how much things change in seven or eight weeks so you never know how it's going to be then, but as long as it's safe by then, I'm more than up for going and playing for sure."

Kyle Edmund is a former top 20 player and is currently ranked No. 44 in the world. He reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in 2018, making him only the sixth British man to reach a major singles semi-final in the Open era. He won his maiden ATP Tour title at Antwerp in October 2018 and has won 2 ATP singles titles in his career so far. He was also part of the British Davis Cup team that won the Davis Cup title in 2015 - the first time in 79 years that Great Britain won the event.
