Amateur golfer scores first hole-in-one with putter!

Amateur golfer, Allison Koehnke (36) stunned both herself and the golfing world by making her first hole-in-one in her first golf round this year. She nailed a tricky 95-meter par three . . . with her putter.

Koehnke, mother of two from Salem, was reportedly nervous to use her irons while playing on the prestigious US golf couse, Sheep Ranch, in Oregon. Sheep Ranch, the once-mystical hidden layout that is now a full-fledged course, opened in June to rave reviews that already put it potentially at the top of the Bandon Dunes Resort rotation. The cliffside par-3 16th hole is known for terrifying rookies. The bumps and undulations can pinball a shot anywhere. Never in her wildest dreams did Koehnke even imagine she could hit a hole-in-one.

Graham Banks, her caddy on the day, suggested she keeps the ball low with her putter. After a few practice swings, the ball was on its way. At first it was off-Liné but it ricocheted off a previous tee shot (her husband’s), onto the green and, surprisingly, into the hole.

Koehnke dropped to her knees and raised both hands in the air while the rest of the group jumped up and down in celebration.

You have to see it to believe it

Luckily Koehnke’s husband, Drew, got it all on video on his phone, as this feat would probably not otherwise have been believed. The video has since gone viral.

According to Koehnke she doesn’t play much golf. She gets in about six holes a week with her girlfriends.

Even major winner Phil Mickleson, known for using the putter from long range, tweeted his approval of Koehnke’s amazing feet with the words “It was a strong club selection.”

“This is beyond unreal! I never thought this would happen to me. I never thought I could hope for a hole-in-one,” Koehnke gushed in an interview with Golf Digest magazine. On hitting the other ball she said “It was scrappy. I’m a scrappy player.”

Koehnke credited Banks for encouraging her to try the putt in the first place. “It was a team effort,” she said.

Sheep Ranch assistant pro Eric Urbina told Digest that the ace was one of six that have been made since the course’s June 1 opening. Amateur golfer Allison Koehnke, who also received a plaque, was the only one to do so with a putter.
