Dominic Thiem's manager: he can go far at the US Open at the French Open
Herwig Straka, the manager of World No. 3 Dominic Thiem, says that the Austrian has become more confident and is in good form after the recent exhibition events he played in, and says that Thiem could go far in the upcoming Grand Slam events in New York and Paris.
The Austrian has confirmed his participation in the Western & Southern Open and the US Open in New York
Herwig Straka on Dominic Thiem's chances at the US Open and French OpenSpeaking to the Austrian agency APA, Strake says, "As I can see, he has already gained in confidence - also because he played incredibly at the exhibitions. You could see that he is right at the front. I hope it doesn't degenerate into over-confidence. He trained really well and has developed personally over the months. He stands even more on his own feet."
After ending as runner-up in three Grand Slam events, Thiem will be looking to win his first major and his chances will be boosted by the absence of two big names - defending champion Rafael Nadal, who has chosen not to travel to the US Open and Roger Federer, who will not play again this year due to his knee injury.
Straka says Thiem should be able to go the distance in the upcoming majors. "The question is the short time. If he gets far in the two tournaments in America, that will be a challenge for his mental situation. It has always been the case that after he has come a long way in a Grand Slam, it took him a week or two to get back to normal. On the other hand, they all played little or no play now. In this respect, this recovery time will be shortened significantly. He can be trusted to go far at both Grand Slams. Now let's hope he can go far at the US Open."
Dominic Thiem has a career-high ATP ranking is world No. 3. He is the second highest-ranked Austrian player in history, behind Thomas Muster, who reached the World No. 1 spot. Thiem has won 16 ATP Tour singles titles, including the 2019 BNP Paribas Open. He has reached the final of the 2018 and 2019 French Open, losing to Rafael Nadal on both occasions, and the 2020 Australian Open, where he lost to Novak Djokovic.
