Rafael Nadal: 'Is good that someone will surpass me, Roger Federer and Djokovic'

Since the US Open 2016, won by the Swiss Stan Wawrinka, no player who is not a member of the Big 3 (Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic) has managed to win a Grand Slam appointment. Nobody seems to dispute the leadership that Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic have earned in the world of tennis through work, epic victories and, above all, through great titles. However, some players believe that, along with Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, there should also be two other rackets that are not at the level of the Big Three right now due to injuries (such as Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka and Juan Martin del Potro). In a recent interview, Nadal gave his views on whether his academy can produce ‘another Nadal’.

Nadal on his views on the future

“What there will be will be another that will be the same or better, it is not known, the future always holds uncertain things,” Rafael Nadal said. “I have won 12 Roland Garros, and I always have the certainty that if I have done it, that I consider myself a normal person, surely someone else will come and equal or surpass it,” the world number two added. He also opined that someone will also surpass the records held by Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as well, along with his. “Someone will also come who he will surpass Novak, Roger, me, someone will come who will surpass us, and this is good and it is part of this world, it is a continuous evolution,” Nadal added. The four-time US Open champion is in the twilight of his career. “Everything has a beginning and everything has an end, and I am not one of those people who are afraid of the end,” Nadal said. “I think I respect yes, but fear no. When it comes the end will be the moment to accept it and to continue looking for motivations in life,” he finished. The Big Three have played each other in 145 matches, including 69 finals. Of all the matches, 46 have been played at Grand Slam tournaments, including 22 finals. The first match between two players of the Big Three occurred in March 2004 at the Miami Masters, where Nadal defeated Federer. Federer and Djokovic first met in April 2006 at the Monte Carlo Masters. Nadal and Djokovic first faced each other a month later at the 2006 French Open.
