Serena Williams feels like the world is going to end: “It’s exhausting”

After seeing all the shootings that caught the headlines all over America and the aggressiveness of people that made protests unfold in a brutal way, Serena Williams stumbled upon a quote from the Bible that, she says, describes perfectly the chaotic world we’re all living in. The American tennis legend shared the quote on her Instagram account.

“2 Timothy 3:1-5: But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here.  For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power; and from these turn away,” was the biblical quote that she shared.

Serena Williams also commented on the quote: “No natural affection. This reads true of the time we are living in with all this brutality and shooting? It’s just exhausting.”

What is Serena Williams’ religion?

Serena Williams was asked during the 2018 US Open edition about celebrating Olympia’s first birthday, but she said she won’t do that because of her religion.

“We’re Jehovah’s Witnesses, so we don’t do that,” Williams told reporters at the press conference. According to Jehovah’s Witnesses official website, followers do not celebrate birthdays because they believe that “such celebrations displease God.”

The 23-times Grand Slam winner is actually a very religious person and she think that many of her career's accomplishments were possible only because she was helped by God. For example, after winning her sixth Australian Open title, she said: “I have to thank Jehovah God for this. I was down and out and he helped me today and I just said prayers, not to win but to be strong and to be healthy, and in the end, I was able to come through so I have to give the glory to him first and foremost.”
