Serena Williams’ husband reacts to firefighters’ struggle vs Californian wildfires
Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, honored the work of the over 1000 firefighters that are currently dealing with the massive wildfires spreading across California. In doing so, the co-founder of Reddit shared a message on his personal Instagram account.
“Our hearts are with all the incarcerated firefighters battling California’s wildfires right now. Many can’t fight because of the pandemic, but more than 1,000 are on the front lines,” was the shared message, originally posted by Reform Alliance, a movement that aims to change the U.S. criminal justice system, along with a couple of pictures with firefighters on the frontline.
Over 650 wildfires have been reported so far in California. These have burned more than 1.25 million acres and that’s not something to be taken with ease. Practically, six times the area of New York City has been turned to ashes.
The fires have left seven people dead and more than 1,400 buildings destroyed, Cal Fire organization declared, as reported by CNN.

Alexis Ohanian and his wife, Serena Williams, are stepping forward more and more often lately as America goes through a very tough period. The COVID-19 pandemic, officers’ reckless actions against black people, the wildfires, and the approach of the presidential elections, all paint a chaotic atmosphere that needs voices like Serena and Alexis to speak up.
A proper example of such an act would be the time when Ohanian helped to spread Serena Williams’ anti-racism post. After Serena Williams shared an old video of a girl speaking up for the black community while bursting into tears, Alexis Ohanian backed up his wife’s post and commented “White America, we need to do better!”
Serena Williams, as a powerful voice among black people and not only, reacted on 31st of May to the Minneapolis protests triggered by the death of George Floyd, who was strangled by a police officer who used nothing but his knee to press over Floyd’s neck.
At that time, rallies with people of all races have started in more than 100 cities and even Trump was taken to a bunker when the events started to look dangerous.
