2020 US Open: Petra Kvitova, Shelby Rogers set 4th round showdown; Brady wins
Petra Kvitova reached the second week of the 2020 US Open on Friday. The Czech 6th seed defeated American Jessica Pegula in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 24 minutes.
Speaking after her win, Kvitova said, “I had never faced her, so it's always kind of tricky. She played some great matches here and she fights until the end. I was trying to be aggressive and maybe go forward more, which really helped today. To be in the second week of the US Open, I'm so happy I decided to come here and play.”
Kvitova will take on Pegula’s compatriot Shelby Rogers in the fourth round. Rogers who played against fellow American Madison Brengle in the third round, won her match 6-2, 6-4.
It was quite a day for American women in the draw as the 28th seed Jennifer Brady and Cathy McNally also reached the second week at Flushing Meadows.

“We’ve played so many times and we know each other so well. She’s such a tough competitor and I knew it was going to be a tough match,” Brady said about Garcia, post-win.
Brady’s round-of-16 opponent is Angelique Kerber who beat another player from the US, Ann Li earlier in the day.
