Stan Wawrinka SHOCK: "This is when I will retire!"

When will Stan Wawrinka retire? A question that may have found an answer? All tennis fans know the Swiss player born in 1985, a man who remained for a long time in the shadow of fellow countryman Roger Federer, who with his results was able to make anyone pale.

Then, in 2014, the turning point: Stan won the Australian Open by defeating Rafael Nadal in the final, in what was his first Grand Slam victory. The Swiss repeated himself at Roland Garros the following year and then at the US Open in 2016, beating Serbian Novak Djokovic on both occasions.

Former world number three, Stan also boasts victory in the 2014 Davis Cup and the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 of the same year, in which he overtook Federer in the final.

Wawrinka answers the question about the retirement

Recently, the three-time Grand Slam champion asked his fans on social media to ask him any questions for a Q&A session. One of them saw fit to ask when would he intend to leave the world of professional tennis and Wawrinka's response was not long in coming: "Soon," he said, "don't worry."

The Swiss also sarcastically added a photo of him in which he raises his thumb, as if to remember that the decision will obviously be his alone. In 2020, Stan started the year by reaching the quarterfinals in Doha and the semifinals at the Australian Open, only to lose once again in the quarterfinals in Acapulco before the global stop for the pandemic happened.

Returning to play in August after the stop due to the Coronavirus emergency, the Swiss struggled to triumph in the Prague Challenger. Remaining in the Czech Republic for the next round, he retired before taking the field for the quarter-finals.

In Rome, the swiss lost immediately against rising star Lorenzo Musetti, while in Paris he did not pass the third round of the Roland Garros being defeated in a thriller match by French wild-card Hugo Gaston and in St. Petersburg he was defeated in the quarterfinals by the young Denis Shapovalov. His last success on the ATP circuit dates back to three and a half years ago: it is the 2017 edition of the Geneva tournament, which he won against Mischa Zverev in the last match. That season, Stan also returned to play the Roland Garros final, but against Nadal there was nothing to do.
