End of the coaching road for Karolina Pliskova and Dani Vallverdu

World no. 6 Karolina Pliskova has ended her partnership with coach Daniel Vallverdu. The Czech shared an update on her social media channel.

“As you may already know, due to the reduced number of WTA tournaments by the end of the year, the tournament in Ostrava was my last in the season,” the former world no. 1’s post began. “Since next week, we’re starting preparation for the upcoming season. Unfortunately, due to time commitments, my coach Daniel Vallverdu and I have mutually agreed to no longer work together. I’d like to thank Dani for the work and the time we’ve spent together.”

Pliskova concluded the post by stating, “It was nice meeting you and your family, and I wish you only the best in your further career!”

Prior to the conclusion of their working relationship, Vallverdu was splitting his coaching responsibilities with Swiss no. 2 Stan Wawrinka.

Dani Vallverdu, Karolina Pliskova, Stan Wawrinka: One coach, two players

Wawrinka, the three-time Major champion, parted ways with his long-time coach Magnus Norman in September this year. Norman and Wawrinka had worked together for eight years and the Swede had mentored Wawrinka to his three Major titles – at the 2014 Australian Open, 2015 French Open, and 2016 US Open.

In his Instagram post thanking Norman and announcing the development, Wawrinka had said, “Thank you! After 8 great years together @swedennorman and I have decided to part ways by mutual consent. We have had (an) amazingly strong, enjoyable and hugely successful partnership. We reached the height of this sport together and I want to thank him for helping me win everything that I could ever dreamt of winning. He’s been a great coach, friend and mentor and will always be a dear friend. I want to publicly thank him for all his hard work dedication and commitment in making me a better player over the years. Winning 3 grand slams has been a life changing experience for me and I could not have done that without him. Wishing him all the best in his next chapter in his life!”

Meanwhile, Vallverdu joined Wawrinka’s team in July 2019. Later in November 2019, Vallverdu became a part of the Czech’s coaching team.

This year, under Dani Vallverdu's charge Karolina Pliskova won the title in Brisbane in January. Apart from this title, her best result came at the Rome Open where she lost in the final to Simona Halep. In the Majors this season, the former world no. 1 lost in the second round of the US Open and French Open, and in the third round of the Australian Open.
