Roger Federer is undoubtedly one of the most iconic athletes of all time. The Swiss phenomenon has popularized tennis all over the world, inspiring an entire generation of fans and promises of the future. In addition to having achieved countless successes on the tennis court, the former World number 1 has always transmitted the right values, attracting many sponsors even towards the end of his career. The 39-year-old from Basel only played in the Australian Open this year, before undergoing a double surgery on his right knee that caused him to close his 2020 early. Meanwhile, Roger has been joined by eternal rival Rafael Nadal at altitude 20 Grand Slam titles, a feat that should make the next Australian Open even more epic. During a recent interview, Federer admitted that he never thought he would win 20 Grand Slam titles or become number 1 in the world.

Federer: 'Reach for the stars'

During a recent interview, Roger Federer revealed that he never dreamt of winning 20 Grand Slams or becoming the World No.1. Hailing from Switzerland, he acknowledged that he never imagined he would achieve enormous success considering his normal upbringing. “I am actually not quite sure exactly why I succeeded as much as I did. You don’t aim for 20 Grand Slams. You don’t aim for World No.1, not in my normal upbringing. In Switzerland, I am not sure if we dreamed this big. It’s not something that happens quickly or easily,” said Federer. “If you’re passionate about what you are doing, keep going, keep believing, reach for the stars. And you’re positive, and you surround yourself with the right people. You really go for it. You can always control your mind, your fitness, your best effort.” remarked Roger. Despite telling fans he wanted to return for the 2021 Australian Open, doubt remained over whether the 39-year-old maestro would return after yet another setback. However, in a recent interview with Tennis.com, Federer joked he had been asked that question so many times it made him “angry”. But after trolling the interviewer, Federer said he was ‘definitely’ not calling it quits anytime soon. “I feel like maybe there’s a little bit more left in me,” Federer said. “And if not, that’s it too. I’m definitely not stepping away [from] the game right now.” Federer said his ambitions haven’t changed and is looking forward to getting back on the court and pushing the other legends of the game.
