Roger Federer: "Jetlag can put you in serious trouble!"

When Roger Federer talks he is never banal, not even when he tells about anecdotes of his life or about situations that can happen to everyone in life. The Swiss Maestro's come back on the court is now very short. Roger, due to two surgeries on his right knee and the cancellation of a large part of the calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only played this year in the Australian Open in Melbourne, where he was defeated in the semifinals by Novak Djokovic.

Millions of fans from all over the world are anxiously awaiting his return, wondering if he will once again be able to repeat an exploit like that of 2017. The season will be even more interesting given the presence in the programming of the Tokyo Games, postponed by twelve months from 2020.

Federer's words about a potential injury hazard on the Tour

The Swiss, recently intervening on a podcast, revealed the dangers that lurk in jetlag: it is that unpleasant feeling that accompanies us during long air journeys that involve crossing numerous time zones, particularly widespread among professionals of the tennis.

Roger said: "You absolutely have to think about it. This is why many professionals sacrifice a couple of days at home to leave earlier for a tournament and try to overcome jetlag ... but you also have to ask yourself if it's worth it."

The Basel champion was extremely precise in this regard: "You should try to adopt a programming that avoids you going from South America to Asia, then to America, Africa and Europe. Rather, you should look for internal paths."

Federer has not hidden that jetlag can also become the cause of much more serious problems: "If you play with jetlag, you have a greater chance of getting injured. This is because your body may still be asleep while you are awake, or vice versa. I am really convinced that the way you manage this problem, the way you manage your routine before and during the flight, will make a difference throughout your career."

Roger has won six times at the Australian Open, with his most recent success coming two years ago. This season, in addition to the Australian Open, where he reached the semifinal and was defeated by Novak Djokovic in straight sets, Roger Federer was also the protagonist, with Rafael Nadal, Bill Gates and Trevor Noah of the Match For Africa 6, a charity event in Cape Town where a crowd of 50,000 people attended!
