'Roger Federer plays really fast, that’s why I have problems', says former Top 10

In the ranking of the tennis players who have won more titles in the Australian Open we find Serbian Novak Djokovic in first place with seven prizes, while, in second position we have Roger Federer with six titles tied with Roy Emerson, the Australian champion of the years '60. In the women's category we have Margareth Smith Court as absolute champion, a tennis player who can count 11 titles and seven consecutive victories during the 60s and up to 1973. Recently, however, the one who has obtained the most titles and conquered the most finals is Serena Wiliams with 7 victories in singles and four in doubles. According to Craig Tiley, the director of the Australian Open, the tournament will start three weeks after the originally scheduled date, more precisely on 8 February. The 2021 edition of the competition will also be characterized by a factor never seen before: the qualifiers will not be held in Melbourne, as has always been the case, but in Dubai. In the opinion of most tennis experts and fans in general, the super favorite to win the tournament is once again the reigning champion, hence Novak Djokovic. In addition to being the number one player in the ATP ranking, the Serbian was the winner of the last two Australian Open and nothing prevents him from trying to win next year too. Rafa Nadal is taking care of shuffling the cards on the table, while Federer will not be at the start of the Australian tournament. In the squad of tennis players who could win we also see Dominic Thiem, the 27-year-old Austrian positioned in third place in the ATP ranking. After beating Djokovic in the semifinal of the ATP Finals held in London, the youngster will certainly try to repeat the performance. We just have to wait for the announced date to find out the results of the tournament. Meanwhile, Robin Soderling lost to Roger Federer in the 2009 French Open final. Having defeated Rafa Nadal in the quarterfinals, Soderling was regarded highly. But Federer was always a tough challenge for Soderling.

Soderling talks about Roger Federer

Roger Federer’s fast-paced game always bothered Robin Soderling. But during the 2010 Roland Garros quarterfinal, the conditions were slower and heavier. Federer struggles against slower conditions, and that was the perfect recipe for Soderling to defeat Federer. “Roger plays really fast, that’s why I have problems with my long swings, my big strokes. I didn’t have time to really play heavy indeed, but when it was slower conditions, it was easier for me. I got a little bit more extra time and I could hit hard enough through those heavy conditions so it was the perfect, perfect day for me to beat a player like Roger that day.”
