In a difficult season from many points of view with the suspension of competitions due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and with many protagonists who have decided to partially or completely skip the second half of the season after the resumption of competitions, there were still many interesting, compelling and dramatic matches.

In Brisbane, in the semifinals, Karolina Pliskova defeated Naomi Osaka in one of the most incredible matches of the season, with the final score of 6-7 (10), 7-6 (3), 6-2. A sensational battle, especially in the first two sets, with the two protagonists authors of a truly superb technical, athletic and mental performance.

The semi-final of the Australian Open between Garbine Muguruza and Simona Halep is certainly one of the highlights of the season just ended. Muguruza came from a long period of difficulty. To reach the semifinals she also defeated Elina Svitolina and Kiki Bertens. Against Simona Halep the Spaniard she played the best performance of the Australian tournament, closing the match 7-6 (8), 7-5. The US Open semifinal between the two friends and rivals Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenkia was another incredible match. Azarenka won the match 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, after a series of endless emotions, putting back a match that, at the beginning of the second set, was on the edge of the abyss.

One of the best performances of 2020 was the 4th round of Roland Garros between Iga Swiatek and Simonale Halep. The Pole, great star and eventual winner of the Parisian Grand Slam, gave one of the worst tennis lessons ever had by her opponent, winning a memorable match 6-1 6-2. A perfect and unstoppable tennis, a sparkling test of strength, made up of winners and the mental capacity of a champion.

The first round of Roland Garros 2020 won by Garbine Muguruza against Tamara Zidansek was a challenge of incredible emotions. After two balanced and hard fought sets, the Spanish champion in Paris in 2016 needed the third set to beat her rival, with the final score of 7-5 4-6 8-6, at the end of a real sports battle. A few days later Muguruza was unimaginably eliminated from the tournament by Danielle Collins after another sensational match.

The US Open final between Osaka and Azarenka was also a match to remember. Winning 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, the Japanese won her second title at Flushing Meadows and her third career Slam. That was also his last match of 2020.
