Elena Vesnina will officially come back to the WTA Tour after two years, after a hiatus due to the birth of her first daughter, but she is now the same Russian player who confirmed in an interview with tennis.com that she was back on the tennis court.

She said: "It struck me when my coach Andrej Chesnoko told me: You know Elena, I stopped when I was 31 or 32 and I wanted to play longer. He had to retire with a very serious injury and he said it's better to try than not. And she's right.

I don't want to regret not trying to come back when it's too late. I want to show my daughter what mom can do. She knows I'm working to start playing tennis again and She likes the idea. When she watches tennis she says, My mom plays tennis too! I felt so good at home.

All that traveling is certainly not the thing I was missing. I'm not coming back because I have to. I have so many options and I'm not in a hurry. It's all coming naturally. I enjoy playing tennis. Tennis has never really left me. I've kept it close to me. It's a part of my life and it will always be.

I just retired. a couple of years ago, but there are already many new faces on the tour n players I don't even know or against whom I have never played. Now young tennis players are more cheeky than we were. When we were their age we were so excited to be on the tour.

We had great respect for the best and this hurt us on the pitch. I'm giving my daughter everything I can. I want to teach her piano and dance, because a girl must have a good sense of rhythm. Then maybe I'll teach her to play tennis. And we'll see if she likes it."
