'I never followed him but Roger Federer has...', says Top 10

23-year-old Russian Andrey Rublev was rightly awarded as the 'Most Improved Player' of the year 2020: the Muscovite won five titles on the main circuit (including three ATP 500 trophies), as well as entering the top 10 for the first time. He was also able to reach the quarter-finals at Roland Garros and the US Open, losing respectively to Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev. With 41 games won in total over the course of the season, Rublev is tied with world number one Novak Djokovic. Andrey Rublev believes Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer boast of certain distinct qualities that make people attach a specific image with them.

Rublev on the key strengths of Roger Federer

During a recent interview, Andrey Rublev was asked about his thoughts on Roger Federer bagging yet another Fans' Favorite title despite barely playing all year. "I never followed him but he (Roger Federer) has this status, it is his image," Rublev said. "Just like Nadal is associated with someone who will always fight to the end, no matter what. He will 'die' on the field, but he will continue to play. That is, people already have their own feelings with each player." The Russian then highlighted specific traits of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic that he thinks are their strongest points. “I would say Rafael Nadal's mind, Roger Federer's sense of timing and for Novak Djokovic, his vision of the game, his backhand and his elasticity,” the Russian continued. Back in 2019, Federer bought a stake in Swiss sneaker brand ‘On’. The partnership between Federer and On reached new heights after it was announced that the brand will partner with the Swiss Olympics team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. It was a great step forward for the brand, as it will receive global exposure when the athletes dawn the ‘On’ apparels in the Tokyo Olympics. “I am pleased to announce that On is to be a new partner of the Swiss Olympic. This means that all swiss athletes at the Olympic Games in Tokyo next year will be wearing On clothes and shoes. Of course, I hope I’ll be there too. I also think it’s great that this partnership supports both young athletes and Paralympians. This is wonderful news and I hope that Swiss athletes are looking forward to collaborating with ON." Although the old logo is prominent, Federer registered a new logo by the end of 2020. The logo is simpler than his old one. It has an ‘R’ with a period. Federer and ‘On’ could use this logo together.
