'Roger Federer didn’t miss much last year', says former Top 10

Roger Federer is getting closer and closer to returning to the field. March is likely to be the right time. The ATP has in fact scheduled eight events and one of these may be the good one. After more than twelve months and the last semi-final played at the Australian Open 2020, the Swiss could take part in the tournaments in Dubai and Doha. If his physical conditions allow him, he could join Nadal at the start of the tournament in Rotterdam. Director Krajicek hopes to bring Roger back to Holland, a place that brings back fond memories to the Swiss. Federer has triumphed there three times: the first in 2005, the second in 2008 and the third time in 2018. The latter allowed him for the last time to return to first place in the world at the age of 36. Swiss tennis starlet Belinda Bencic has lamented the withdrawal of compatriot Roger Federer from the Australian Open this year.

Be that as it may, Belinda Bencic aptly summed up the mood of the tennis world around his withdrawal, saying the game without her more illustrious peer isn’t quite the same. “The whole tennis world misses Roger Federer. Tennis without him is always sadder. I think and hope and am very confident that he will come back soon. At least, he didn’t miss much last year,” said Bencic, who is out of quarantine ahead of the Australian Open. Swiss starlet Belinda Bencic has opened up on whether she has planned for a life after tennis. Speaking to yesteryear star Daniela Hantuchova, Bencic conceded that though she has plenty of years left in the game, the thought of retirement and after does cross her mind sometimes. “Sometimes, I think about it, although I still think I really have a lot of years to go. But I think it’s very important (that) you know when to stop and how the transition is, and that you have a normal life after tennis. I actually appreciate this year because it showed me that I still enjoy being at home and I can have a normal life, besides tennis,” said the Swiss star, who is currently ranked 12th by the WTA. Bencic added that once she hangs up her racket for good, she would like to get married and have children, adding that she also has other interests in mind such as finishing her school education and getting a university degree. “So this (time she spent at home) showed me that I shouldn’t have any problems after it (retirement from tennis). But definitely after the career, I want to have a family, that’s kind of my first thought. And I want to have kids. After that, definitely I want to finish or not finish, but get a university degree, go to school. And I feel like I am pretty happy now. I finish like the part of the school that I had to, and after tennis, I can still do that. I have time to do that,” Bencic said.
