'Roger Federer is my favorite player', says young star

Veronika Kudermetova is widely considered one of the brightest stars on the female circuit. The 23-year-old Russian has in fact climbed almost 200 positions in the standings in the last two years, reaching the current 46th place in the WTA. Kudermetova also performed well in the first tournament of the season in Abu Dhabi, where she pushed to the last act. In a long exclusive interview granted to Sportskeeda, the new WTA tennis star analyzed her goals for the new season, starting with the Australian Open. Kudermetova also revealed her enormous admiration for Roger Federer and Serena Williams.

"I did not set any specific goals with my team. But I have to admit I am a very ambitious person, so I have very high expectations from my tennis career. I think this result will give me more confidence and more motivation to keep working hard and reach my potential. I am coming in with confidence and feeling good physically and mentally. So I believe if I can keep up the hard work and improve my level during the next 14 days of quarantine and practice, I believe I can play good" - Veronika Kudermetova said. Who according to you is the favorite for the men's and women's titles at the Australian Open this year? "Difficult to say considering the difficulties of the times we are living in, a lot of different things can happen in the next 2/3 weeks." Who do you think is your biggest competition among the younger players? "Not sure, many young players are coming up and showing their big potential. I think we are a very nice group of players and will push each other to the top." The young Russian also talked about the GOATs: "Serena Williams and Roger Federer, but I also liked Justine Henin a lot." As of now, the Australian Open is on and will take place from February 8, 2021, to February 21, 2021. It will be the first Grand Slam of the year and thus, fans are quite excited about it.
