Former ATP star hopes Roger Federer makes a strong comeback

After the final reached at Challenger 1 in Biella (in the second tournament he preferred to retire) the former world number one Andy Murray, absent from the Australian Open after having found the positivity at Covid-19 a few weeks earlier, spoke at a press conference in view of the Montpellier tournament, a tournament that will soon see him protagonist in the first against the Belarusian Gerasimov. Here are his words reported by Yahoo: "The final at the Australian Open? I thought it would be more balanced, but I know how Novak Djokovic plays in Melbourne and I know how motivated he was. I saw that before the final Medvedev was talking about pressure on Nole's shoulders , but he, along with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, know how to handle pressure, have been under pressure all their careers and play at their best when it really matters. These young people are still very far from the Big 3, there is really a big difference "Novak Djokovic in fact eliminated two of the main 'exponents' of NextGen in Australia, namely the German Alexander Zverev beaten in a fairly close match in the quarter-finals and precisely Daniil Medvedev, literally destroyed in the final. The Russian had returned from 20 consecutive victories and was not even able to put up a strenuous resistance to the domination of the Serbian champion. The 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer has featured in some of the greatest matches of all time. Many of those epic matches have been in Grand Slam finals against his arch-rivals Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Interestingly, Marat Safin’s sister and 3-time Grand Slam champion Dinara Safina recently shared an old photo on her Instagram story. Terming the picture as a memory from 16 years ago, it had Federer and Safin shaking hands after their epic semifinal match at the 2005 Australian Open.

Safin wants Roger Federer to keep going

Hence after watching Dinara’s story, Marat Safin reposted her picture on his own Instagram story and thanked his sister for reviving the memories. The Russian wrote on his story about Roger Federer being the last man standing from their generation and hopes the Swiss Maestro keeps on winning matches. “Sister, tnx for the memories. Roger, last one standing from our Gen! Keep on kicking asses! Respect, bratha,” wrote Safin. The duo played 12 matches against each other, with Federer having a 10-2 in the head-to-head meetings. They last played in the third round of the 2009 Australian Open, a match which Federer won in straight sets.
