'Roland Garros and the US Open are tougher for Roger Federer', says analyst

Roger Federer has not played a tennis match for several months now and both fans and even the same ones at the work are looking forward to the 20-time winner of Grand Slam titles making his full return to the ATP circuit. His last match took place in the semifinals of the Australian Open 2020 where the Swiss tennis player was defeated in three sets by world number one Novak Djokovic. Subsequently, after the performance in South Africa against his great friend and rival Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer was forced to stop and undergo a double knee surgery which practically 'destroyed' his expectations of returning to the field. The pandemic and everything that has led to this terrible virus, from the cancellation of Wimbledon to the postponement of the Tokyo Olympic Games, has in fact closed the possibility of anticipating a return to the field. Many were waiting for Federer's return to the circuit at the Australian Open 2021, but despite the postponement, a few weeks before the start of the tournament, the agent of the Swiss Tony Godsick announced that Federer would not participate in the tournament. Roger Federer's return to the circuit is now scheduled for March with the Swiss who could return to the ATP tournament in Dubai. 2021 will be a crucial year for Novak Djokovic in his bid to overtake the record Grand Slam tally set by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, according to Mats Wilander. While both Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal will be aiming to add to their count at the upcoming Australian Open, Roger Federer has decided to sit out the year's first Major.

Wilander on Roger Federer

"In Australia and Wimbledon, Roger Federer would still have a chance to win," Mats Wilander responded when asked to assess Federer's chances of winning another Slam. "He didn’t enter Melbourne this year. But if he doesn’t have a physical issue, he can rightly hope for the trophy at Wimbledon, where he can win at any time. Roland Garros and the US Open are a tougher affair, but Federer has targeted Wimbledon and the Olympics this year anyway," the Swede added. Although he has been absent from the playing fields for some time, there are still many tennis fans who love and admire the Swiss tennis player. In the last few days two young Irish fans, specifically from the city of Ashbourne, may be able to turn their dream into reality and play with Roger Federer. Jamie Duff and Oliver White are two young 21-year-olds who posted a video playing tennis on local courts. In the post they tagged Roger Federer who responded admiringly and Duff said during an interview: "We have always admired the great tennis champions and in particular Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer and have Roger who answers and invites us to organize tennis match with him is an incredible thing. We don't know if it will happen but we are curious to know how this story will end."
