Renato Paratore defending champion in UK
After three consecutive races in the Canary Islands, the European Golf Tour is back in the spotlight with the Betfred British Masters, scheduled from 12 to 15 May in Sutton Coldfield (Birmingham). In England, Renato Paratore will defend the title won in 2020, in poor physical condition due to a problem with his hand which, last week, forced him to retire prematurely from the Canary Islands Championship. Last year the Capitoline in Newcastle upon Tyne celebrated his second career title (the first had arrived in 2017 in Sweden at the Nordea Masters) on the top continental circuit, signing the feat at the British Masters 44 years after the Florentine Baldovino Dassù (champion in 1976). Alongside the 24-year-old from Rome, five other Italians will also take the field: Guido Migliozzi, Edoardo Molinari, Francesco Laporta, Andrea Pavan and Lorenzo Gagli.
Renato Paratore, Betfred British MastersThey have won all three tournaments in the Canaries and now the South Africans are chasing consecutive poker success on the European Tour. However, on The Belfry route there will be no Garrick Higgo, 21 year old from Johannesburg who won the Gran Canaria Lopesan Open and the Canary Islands Championship, respectively first and third race in the Canaries. In the field, however, Dean Burmester (champion of the Tenerife Open) but also Justin Harding (already a victory this year in Kenya).
Danny Willett (Masters Champion 2016) will be the ambassador of the tournament. Which will also see among the sure protagonists the Danish Rasmus Hojgaard (emerging star of the circuit who returns to play on the European Tour after some performances on the PGA Tour), the German Martin Kaymer, the Austrian Bernd Wiesberger and the Thai Jazz Janewattananond. Up for grabs not only a total prize pool of 1,850,000 pounds but also fundamental points in the race for the pass, on the European side, for the Ryder Cup 2021 in Wisconsin. From this tournament and until September 12, 2021, when the qualifiers for the BMW PGA Championship end, the points earned for the European and World Points Lists will be multiplied by 2 and no longer by 1.5. And again: the British Masters, together with Made in HimmerLand (May 27-30) and Porsche European (June 3-6) will represent a viaticum for the US Open (June 17-20 in La Jolla, California). With the top ten (to climb if already qualified) who in these events will earn more points in the Race to Dubai (the order of merit of the European Tour) who will get a place for the third and penultimate Major of 2021.
