Porsche European Open open to spectators

General admission spectators will be in attendance at a European Tour event in Europe for the first time since October 2019 at this week’s Porsche European Open at Green Eagle Golf Courses in Hamburg from June 5-7.

After constructive discussions with promoters U.COM Event, authorities gave the go-ahead for a model project allowing for 2,000 daily spectators.

Tournament Director Dirk Glittenberg said: "They were intensive weeks, but it's all been worthwhile. We're so unbelievably happy that the Porsche European Open can be held in front of spectators. It'll be the first top class professional tournament in Europe to do so. It means we already have a winner even before the first round gets underway – the tournament and the players will benefit from the atmosphere, and the fans will be finally rewarded for their patience.

Porsche European Open, statements

“Our thanks go out to the local Harburg district authorities for all their efforts and their decision to permit the model project.”

Two-time Major Champion and former World Number One Martin Kaymer, who is making his first appearance in the event since 2016, said: "It's wonderful being able to tee off in Germany again. And it's sensational that spectators are actually going to be at the venue.

"I'm really looking forward to the atmosphere. The fans have had to go without it for such a long time - we golfers too. Though the health of everybody involved was quite rightly always the top priority, I'm so happy that it's now time for a return to some degree of normality."

Tickets for the tournament on the demanding Porsche Nord Course can be purchased at this link: https://ift.tt/3wR9P7m.

Tickets must be purchased in advance and an official negative antigen test no older than 24 hours must also be produced by all ticket holders. All spectators are required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing.

The Porsche European Open will take place over 54 holes and will be played from Saturday June 5 to Monday June 7.
