Wimbledon 2021: the new health rules
This season, Wimbledon, the prestigious Grand Slam staged in London, will be held from 28 June to 11 July 2021 and it will follow the conclusion of the Roland Garros in Paris a few days later, postponed by a week due to new restrictions recently imposed by the French government.
Despite the return of competitions, some restrictions will be inevitable to avoid a new Covid-19 emergency: among these the choice of hosting a reduced number of crowd, perhaps 25% of the total capacity. Another will be to cancel the traditional day of rest of the players, who will have to reside in a special bubble inside a hotel made available for them: it should be in particular the renowned Park Plaza, in the area of Westminster.
However, the rules will not be exactly the same for everyone: it is learned from the Daily Mail that players with seeded heads will receive preferential treatment in the hotel, since they will receive the 63 suites of the building, obviously equipped with a better view.
Tennis players will not be able to leave their hotel, but they were recently given this message by the All England Club: "Player registration for the hotel has been opened and we are working on this according to the different needs of the groups of players."
Furthermore, it is possible that athletes will be able to bring any children and up to two members of their team with them. The last edition of the Wimbledon tournament, the most important tennis event in the world, was staged between 1 and 19 July 2019, seeing the triumph of world number one Novak Djokovic in the men's field and the Romanian Simona Halep in the women's one.
The last match of the men's draw was particularly exciting and full of surprises, with the Swiss Roger Federer who was unable to take advantage of two match points on his serve at the end of a sensational comeback in the fifth set. Last year, due to the Coronavirus emergency, the management of Wimbledon promptly chose to postpone the competition to 2021, hoping for a calmer situation.
