Confident Cameron Norrie ready for Auckland and Australian Open
Rising British star Cameron Norrie admitted to feeling nervous at the beginning of the match against fellow rising star Frances Tiafoe.
However, the Briton calmed down as the match progressed as he registered a straight-set win over USA's Tiafoe 7-6 (4) 6-0 at the Hopman Cup.
Norrie, ranked at No. 90 in the world, blew a break point in the second set before he got broken in the third game.
Tiafoe paid the price for failing to serve out for the opening set in the 10th game as Norrie stole the opener in a tie-break and then dominated the second set.
Great Britain eventually claimed a 2-1 win as Norrie and Katie Boulter beat Tiafoe and Serena Williams in the deciding mixed doubles clash.
"I came out a little bit nervous, he was serving well. I managed to fight back and play a very clutch tie break. I managed to free up again in the second and played some of my best tennis," Norrie said after beating Tiafoe, per The West Australian.
Norrie's Hopman Cup campaign also includes a win over 2018 NextGen ATP Finals champion Stefanos Tsitsipas and a loss against world No. 3 Roger Federer.
The Briton leaves the Hopman Cup in great spirits as he looks forward to next week's ASB Classic in Auckland and the upcoming Australian Open.
"It's just nice to get some confidence leading into the weeks to come and Aussie open. I have beaten two quality opponents and I'm happy with my level leading into Auckland next week," Norrie added.
